Private Lessons

Everything you need to know before booking your first session.

No prior knowledge is needed. Gabriela teaches students from complete beginners with zero Spanish experience all the way to advanced speakers who want to reach native-level fluency. Before your first lesson she will ask a few simple questions to understand your starting point and design the lesson plan accordingly.

Most students take one or two sessions per week and see strong, consistent progress within a few months. If you have a specific deadline — a trip, a business meeting, or a relocation — Gabriela can design an intensive schedule to get you ready faster. There is no required frequency; you set the pace that works for your life.

Yes. Business Spanish is one of the most popular focuses at SpanishFluent. Lessons can be tailored entirely to professional communication — meetings, presentations, negotiations, emails, and the cultural context that matters in Latin American business settings. See the Business Spanish page for more details.

Yes. SpanishFluent offers private lessons for teenagers and younger students. Sessions for young learners are structured differently from adult lessons — more dynamic, visual, and engaging — but delivered with the same native-level instruction. Visit the Teens & Kids page to learn more.

All lessons are conducted via Zoom. You will need a free Zoom account, a stable internet connection, and a device with a microphone and camera. No special software or materials are needed — everything is provided by Gabriela during the session.

SpanishFluent serves students across the United States and Europe. Scheduling is flexible and covers Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific time zones in the US, as well as CET and GMT time zones in Europe. When you book your first session, Gabriela will confirm availability for your specific time zone.

Every first lesson is effectively a trial — there is no long-term commitment required. You book one session at $50, experience the teaching approach, and decide from there. Gabriela also takes a few minutes before the first lesson for a short intro conversation at no extra charge, to understand your goals and design your lesson plan.

Life happens. If you need to reschedule or cancel a session, please let Gabriela know at least 24 hours in advance by email at gabriela@spanishfluent.com. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may not be refunded, but Gabriela will always do her best to find a solution that works for both sides.

Apps and courses teach you language structure. A native teacher teaches you to actually speak. The difference is immediate: a native speaker hears exactly where you go wrong, corrects you in real time, gives you the cultural context behind the words, and adapts to what you need in the moment. No algorithm can replicate that. Gabriela grew up speaking Costa Rican Spanish — the rhythm, the slang, the culture — and brings all of that to every single lesson.

Absolutely — it is one of Gabriela’s specialties. Costa Rican Spanish is one of the most distinctive dialects in Latin America, full of expressions like “pura vida,” “mae,” “tuanis,” and “diay” that you will never find in a standard Spanish course. Gabriela has written an entire book on this topic — Tico Talk — and weaves this authentic vocabulary into every lesson for students who want to sound genuinely local.

¡Hasta pronto, mae!
