Spanish for young
learners who love it.
Private, one-on-one Spanish lessons for children and teenagers — taught by a native Costa Rican teacher with 10+ years of experience. Engaging, age-appropriate, and designed to build genuine confidence from the very first session.
The earlier they start,
the easier it becomes.
The science is clear: children and teenagers learn languages faster and more naturally than adults. Their brains are wired for it. But only if the learning environment is right — engaging enough to hold their attention, structured enough to produce real progress, and taught by someone who genuinely understands how young minds work.
That is exactly what Spanish lessons for teens and kids at SpanishFluent are designed to deliver. Not a watered-down adult curriculum. Not an app with cartoon characters. Real instruction — native-level, personalized, and genuinely fun — from a teacher who has spent over a decade teaching students of every age.
Lessons tailored to
every stage.
The way a 9-year-old learns Spanish is completely different from how a 15-year-old does. At SpanishFluent, every lesson is designed for the specific age and learning stage of your child.
Short, dynamic sessions packed with games, songs, visual aids, and storytelling. Building vocabulary and confidence through play. Sessions run 45 minutes.
A balance of structure and conversation. Grammar introduced naturally through speaking. Real topics that actually interest them — travel, music, sport, culture. 45–60 minute sessions.
Conversation-focused and increasingly independent. School support, exam preparation (AP Spanish, IB), travel prep, and real fluency development. 60 minute sessions.
What makes these lessons
actually work.
Children and teenagers do not learn the same way adults do. Every lesson at SpanishFluent for young learners is built around six core principles that research — and experience — show produce real results.
Games & Interactive Activities
Every session includes games, challenges, and activities that make vocabulary stick — because children learn best when they are having fun and do not realize they are learning.
Speaking from Day One
No passive memorization. Your child speaks Spanish from the very first session. Building spoken confidence early is the single most important factor in long-term fluency.
Fully Personalized Content
Lessons are built around topics your child actually cares about — their hobbies, interests, favorite sports, music, or travel destinations. Engagement drives retention.
Real Costa Rican Spanish
A native accent from the start. Children who learn from a native teacher develop natural pronunciation that is almost impossible to correct later. This advantage lasts a lifetime.
Progress Parents Can See
After every session, Gabriela sends a short note on what was covered and what to practice. Parents are always informed and welcome to attend sessions if they wish.
School & Exam Support
For teenagers taking AP Spanish, IB Spanish, or school exams, lessons can be tailored to the curriculum. Gabriela helps students understand the material in a way their classroom often cannot.

🌱 Complete Beginners
Children with zero Spanish who are starting from scratch. Lessons begin with the absolute basics and build naturally from there — no pressure, no intimidation, just progress.
📚 School Spanish Supplement
Students who take Spanish at school but want to actually speak it. Private lessons fill the gaps that classroom instruction cannot — pronunciation, confidence, and real conversation.
✈️ Traveling or Moving to LATAM
Families relocating to Costa Rica, Mexico, or any Spanish-speaking country. Getting children comfortable in Spanish before the move makes the transition dramatically easier.
🎓 Exam Preparation
Teenagers preparing for AP Spanish, IB Spanish Language, or school Spanish exams. Targeted sessions focused on the specific skills and vocabulary the exam requires.
“My daughter went from dreading her Spanish homework to asking for extra practice sessions. In three months her confidence completely transformed. Gabriela is exceptional with teenagers.”
Simple to start.
Easy to continue.
A brief email describing your child’s age, current Spanish level, goals, and any school requirements. This takes five minutes and ensures the first lesson is perfectly calibrated.
Gabriela meets your child, builds rapport, and gently assesses their level through conversation and fun activities. No tests, no pressure — just getting to know each other and finding the right starting point.
Based on the first session, Gabriela creates a personalized plan built around your child’s interests, level, and goals. Parents receive a summary of the approach before the second session.
Most young learners do best with one session per week — enough to maintain momentum without overwhelming their schedule. Session notes are sent to parents after every lesson.
“My son is 10 and was completely resistant to learning Spanish until Gabriela started teaching him. Now he asks when his next lesson is. The difference is night and day.”

SpanishFluent teaches students from age 8 through 17. For children younger than 8, Spanish is better learned through immersive play environments rather than structured lessons — Gabriela is happy to advise on the best approach for very young children. For students 18 and over, see the Private Lessons page.
For younger children (ages 8–11), sessions run 45 minutes — long enough to make real progress, short enough to maintain full concentration. For pre-teens and teenagers (ages 12–17), sessions are 60 minutes. Both formats are available at the same rate of $50 per session.
Absolutely. Starting from zero is perfectly fine — in many ways it is the ideal starting point, because there are no bad habits to unlearn. Gabriela has extensive experience teaching complete beginners of all ages. The first session is designed to be welcoming, fun, and entirely pressure-free, so your child leaves feeling excited rather than overwhelmed.
Yes. Parents are welcome to attend sessions, particularly for younger children. Many parents find the first few sessions reassuring to observe before giving their child more independence in the lessons. For teenagers, most students prefer to have their own space, but this is entirely up to the family. Gabriela will always send session notes to parents regardless of whether they attend.
Yes. Gabriela has experience supporting students preparing for AP Spanish Language and Culture, IB Spanish, and school-level Spanish exams. Sessions can be structured around the specific skills the exam tests — reading comprehension, written production, oral commentary — alongside general language development. If your child has an exam coming up, mention the date and the specific syllabus when you book and Gabriela will design the sessions accordingly.
For most children and teenagers, one session per week strikes the right balance between consistency and not overloading their schedule. Students who also practice a little between sessions — watching a short Spanish video, reviewing vocabulary for five minutes — tend to progress significantly faster. For students with an upcoming trip, exam, or relocation, two sessions per week for a defined period can accelerate results considerably.
This is one of the most common concerns parents have — and one of the main reasons private instruction works better than group classes or apps. When a child loses interest, it is almost always a sign that the content is not engaging or the pace is wrong. In a one-on-one setting, Gabriela can immediately adjust — slower pace, different topics, more games, a different format. There is no fixed curriculum and no pressure to keep up with anyone else. If your child struggles, the lesson adapts to them, not the other way around.
Sibling sessions can be arranged if both children are at a similar level and age group, and if both parents and Gabriela agree it is the right format for them. In most cases, individual sessions produce faster and more targeted progress — but for younger children who feel more comfortable together, or for families who prefer a shared session for scheduling reasons, it can work well. Contact Gabriela at gabriela@spanishfluent.com to discuss.
Just a device with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection — a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer works best. A free Zoom account is all that is needed for the platform. No textbooks, no printed materials, and no advance preparation are required. Gabriela provides everything digitally during the session.
No. There is no minimum number of sessions and no contract. You book one session at a time and continue for as long as it is working for your child. Most families find that after the first lesson the decision to continue is an easy one — but there is never any pressure or obligation to commit in advance.
